Annual Workplace Safety Summit: Innovation to Application (June 25, 2025)

The MSD Solutions Lab hosted its annual Workplace Safety Summit. This year's event spotlighted the practical application of innovative solutions for MSD prevention. Karl Zelik, associate professor of mechanical engineering at Vanderbilt University, delivered a keynote titled, Why We Fear Innovation and the Unexpected Benefits of Trying New Things. Karl also moderated an engaging panel discussion featuring Steve Fischer with the University of Waterloo, a former MSD Solutions Lab Research to Solutions Grant recipient; Sheri Saskowski with Wyffels Hybrids, a current MSD Pledge 2.0 member; and Maricell Frazier and Vaughn Mosley with PepsiCo, a former MSD Solutions Lab Pilot Grant recipient. Accounting for Non-physical Risk Factors in MSD Prevention (Sept. 3, 2024)

Work-related physical risk factors, such as force, posture and repetition, are commonly studied, assessed and considered when designing work and preventing musculoskeletal disorder risks. While these risk factors are vital to consider when implementing programs to mitigate MSDs, non-physical risk factors, such as work organization or job stress, should also be recognized to provide a more holistic approach to assessing MSD risks. Speakers share practical ways organizations can begin accounting for such risks in their workplaces.

The Intersection of DEI and MSDs: Ensuring Equitable Outcomes (July 11, 2024)

MSD Solutions Lab discusses the recent publication, The Intersection of DEI and MSDs: Ensuring Equitable Outcomes. Dr. Paige DeBaylo, MSD Solutions Lab research manager, highlights why diversity, equity and inclusion should be a foundational element of musculoskeletal disorder prevention. Topics include how organizational characteristics can perpetuate disproportionate risk between workers and how organizations can lessen disproportionality in risk. While individual factors may be relevant to MSD prevalence, MSD risk factors are due to the workplace not accommodating or providing for all people. Learn how your organization can protect the entire workforce from MSD risks with equitable solutions.

Annual Workplace Safety Summit: Harnessing Innovation and Collaboration (June 13, 2024)

During the June 2024 annual workplace safety summit, Harnessing Innovation and Collaboration, speakers shared the progress pledge members have made to reduce workplace musculoskeletal disorders, how to foster a culture of innovation through collaboration and the remarkable achievements of MSD grant winners. The summit featured keynote speaker Julia Abate, executive director of the Ergonomics Center at North Carolina State University; Dr. Meiyin Liu, assistant professor at Rutgers University; Dana Schultz, manager of HR and safety at Superior Tube Products; and Kathleen Spanjer, NAM Ergonomics SME at Schneider Electric.

Navigating Musculoskeletal Medical Management in the Workplace (March 19, 2024)

Musculoskeletal Disorders can have a profound, lasting impact on worker wellbeing and quality of life, not to mention costly implications for businesses. Early intervention and holistic return-to-work programs can minimize severity of these injuries, allow workers to reintegrate into their roles and help employers retain valuable talent. MSD Solutions Community Index Webinar 2022-'23 Findings (Feb. 29, 2024)

MSD Solutions Lab research team discusses findings of the first MSD Solutions Index with help from our participating Pledge organizations. The MSD Solutions Index survey evaluates an organization’s MSD prevention initiatives and provides the community with a summary of results regarding worker health, safety and MSD prevention. This webinar highlights key findings from 52 organizations, listing collective areas of success and opportunities for improvement with respect to safety culture, innovation and collaboration, and risk reduction.

MSD Solutions Lab Workplace Safety Summit: Insights and Actions to Prevent the Most Common Injury (June 15, 2023)

It’s been a year since the Council’s MSD Solutions Lab launched its first-of-a-kind MSD Pledge to unite employers worldwide in reducing workplace MSDs.
