Mr. Prendergast possesses a comprehensive and dynamic career, spanning more than three decades in the electrical industry, with a profound dedication to labor advocacy and safety. His professional journey began with a significant leadership role from 1988 to 1990, when he spearheaded a union organizing drive within an open shop electrical business. This pivotal experience led to his enduring commitment as a member of IBEW Local 103 Boston since 1990.
Within IBEW Local 103, he excelled as a Journeyperson Inside Wireperson from 1990 to 2010. His unwavering focus on safety is evident through his continuous service on the local's safety committee since 2015 and his past role as a Boston JATC Safety Instructor from 2001 to 2016. In 2021, he expanded his contributions to the newly established NECA Boston Safety Committee and has also been a key member of the Mass Building Trade Unions Recovery Council and Local 103 Recovery Group since it’s formation.
A respected expert in training, he has been a certified OSHA 10/30 Hour Construction Trainer and First-Aid/CPR/AED Trainer since 2001. His professional versatility is showcased in his diverse roles at A. Murphy, Inc., where he has advanced from a Journeyperson to an estimator, foreperson and safety manager. From 2010 to 2024, he served as a signal maintainer for the Mass Bay Transit Authority, and as of January 2025, he has taken on the crucial role of manager of safety and training for the Signals Department.
HIs influence extends to national safety platforms, where he has held significant leadership positions. As an active member of the IBEW Safety Caucus since 2015, he assists with leadership activities and conducts training sessions. Within the NSC Labor Division, his contributions are exceptional; he has served as former vice chair and current chair of both the Labor Agencies and Standards Committee and the Construction Safety and Health Committee. A current custodian of the division, he has been honored with multiple awards, including the 2019 NSC Labor Division Meritorious Service Safety Award, the 2022 NSC Labor Division Outstanding Service to Safety Award, and the 2023 NSC Chairman's Choice Award.
His leadership trajectory within NSC continues as he served as vice chair of the Labor Division from 2023 to 2025 and was named chair in the fall of 2025.
