Darryl C. Hill has over 35 years of experience in safety, health and environmental management. Darryl was recently senior vice president, safety & security, at First Student, Inc. First Student is the largest school bus transportation services company in North America. Dr. Hill has served in senior-level EHS roles at ABB and Johnson Controls. He is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and has a seminary degree in biblical studies, MBA, and Ph.D. in educational leadership.
Hill is EHS program director and lecturer at Oakland University, where he has taught undergraduate courses in construction safety, environmental standards and accident investigation since 1996. He also teaches graduate courses in the Master of Science in Safety Management program. Darryl served as American Society of Safety Professionals Society president during 2010-11 which was the 100th anniversary. He also received ASSP fellow which, is the highest honor for a professional member. Additionally, he received the National Safety Council Distinguished Service to Safety award. In 2025, Darryl received the Board of Safety Professionals Lifetime Achievement Award.
He was appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services to serve a three-year term on the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health Board of Scientific Counselors. Darryl is editor and contributing author for Construction Safety Management & Engineering and Safety Leadership and Professional Development. Currently, he serves on the Iowa State University Alumni Association Board of Directors.
