NSC Names New Chair, Welcomes Five to Board of Directors

DENVER – The National Safety Council appointed Anas Al-Hamwi as chair of its board of directors and welcomed five new members during the annual board meeting at the 2025 NSC Safety Congress & Expo in Denver.
Anas Al-Hamwi, an NSC board member since 2017, serves as regional vice president for Walgreens Retail USA, where he leads health, safety and injury management. A founding member of the Walgreens Boots Alliance Health, Safety and Environmental Governance Committee, he has advanced safety culture through an enhanced OSHA response system and an Active Care model that reduced workplace injuries for three consecutive years.
Brian Callahan, current chair of the NSC Campbell Institute, is CEO and president of ISN, a global leader in contractor and supplier management. He previously worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Koch Industries and served as an officer in the U.S. Army. He also serves on the Oklahoma State University Foundation Board of Trustees.
Darryl Hill has more than 35 years of experience in safety, health and environmental management. He most recently served as senior vice president of safety & security at First Student, Inc. and has held EHS leadership positions at ABB and Johnson Controls. A past president of the American Society of Safety Professionals, he has been recognized with the NSC Distinguished Service to Safety Award and the Board of Safety Professionals Lifetime Achievement Award.
Travis Parsons is director of occupational safety & health for the Laborers’ Health & Safety Fund of North America. With over 25 years of experience, he provides expertise to the Laborers’ International Union of North America, focusing on industrial hygiene, ergonomics, infection control and worksite safety. He also serves as vice president of the Labor Division at NSC and vice chair of the ANSI/ASSP A10 Standards Committee. He has been recognized with the NSC Distinguished Service to Safety Award.
Robert Rudge, Jr. is senior vice president and chief safety and security officer at U. S. Steel, overseeing corporate safety, industrial hygiene, and security, as well as the company’s aircraft division. He previously served as chief security officer for Curtiss-Wright Corporation and spent 25 years as a special agent with the FBI.
Nicholas Smith serves as NSC president, leading the organization's efforts to deliver impact in reducing injuries and deaths in the workplace and on the roadways. He joined NSC in 2017 as chief operations officer and later added the title of chief strategy officer where he oversaw the organization's strategic vision and spearheaded projects to improve efficiency, innovation and operational excellence.
