September 15, 2025

DENVER –The National Safety Council has announced this year’s recipient of the Marion Martin Award, a recognition that celebrates women's accomplishments in safety.

Sarah Futrell is the Chief of Safety and Occupational Health for the Mississippi Valley Division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Through 17 remarkable years of growth and dedication, she has and continues to play a major role in enhancing safety best practices, helping others in their journeys and maintaining safer work environments.

Sarah has embodied the values of innovation, advocacy and leadership through an extensive track record of facilitating measurable success. She increased female representation in her field, strategically mentored others and shaped key regulations to foster lasting impact to occupational safety. The mark of her legacy extends past metrics, as the safety culture she has established will protect others and save lives for generations to come.

"Through her commitment to rigorous safety practices and advancing opportunities for women, Sarah exemplifies the spirit of Marion Martin," said Lorraine Martin, NSC CEO. "Her measurable impact at the Army Corps of Engineers shows what is possible when we combine technical excellence with a commitment to developing the next generation of leaders. It is with great pleasure we present her with this award."

Launched in 2016, the award annually celebrates the accomplishments of women in safety who have paved the way to success for other women in the profession. For more information about the Marion Martin Award and other NSC awards, visit nsc.org/awards
